Hello
again,
As usual, time is flying by so quickly. I’m writing this as I prepare
to fly to Panama to join The Queen Mary 2. A lot has happened since I
last posted. I was due to join The QE2 in South America in early February.
I was due to fly from Manchester via Switzerland and onwards. It’s
always like that! I arrived at Manchester Airport in plenty of time and
checked in. I hate airports (and flying!) but I have to do it. I cleared
security etc. and settled down for a drink. As time went on, I checked
the screens and to my horror, the flight was delayed. I called Steve,
because I knew that my connecting flight was quite tight on time. To cut
a long story short, I was told to get my luggage back and await new flight
details. The only option was an early morning flight via Paris, Buenos
Aeries and somewhere I’d never heard of. So I checked into an airport
hotel and booked an early morning call. I awoke to find it snowing and
all flights cancelled. So after several phone calls, I was told to go
home. I felt bad about not getting to the ship, but it wasn’t my
fault. Later that week, I found out that the weather was so bad, the QE2
wasn’t able to get into the port and I wouldn’t have been
able to get onboard. So after all the hassle, I think I was quite lucky
not to have travelled for 24hrs.only to not get on the ship and have to
travel straight back.
The Stockport Plaza gig was good. We could have done with a few more people
in, but it was good. It was great to have Alfie Joey supporting me. He
did a great 35 min. set, and went down well. I had a ball, the audience
were great. After the show, Alfie did an interview with me for his BBC
Newcastle show. He’s doing really well up there.
Thanks to all of you who took the time to post “Happy Birthday”
messages on MySpace. I had a nice day and for once, I wasn’t working
on my birthday. In fact, February was a quiet month, which gave me some
precious time at home.
Last week, I had to go over to Jersey to do a “Variety Club”
Lunch. I love it over there. I get to catch up with friends and always
enjoy it.
Well, I’m packed and ready to go to Panama, but first I have to
pop down to Pontins in Blackpool to do a show, then I can leave at 3.00
in the morning to get to the airport.
Take
care,
Mick.
Since writing this blog, we have had to cancel Mick’s appearance
on the Queen Mary 2 due to family reasons. Mick apologises to all concerned,
Cunard, its passengers, the booking agents etc. but I’m sure that
they will understand.

Hi
all,
I’ve just spent my last day on the set of “Ideal.” I
really like this acting lark. It’s a different discipline, but once
you get into it, it’s great fun. I have to say that it’s easy
when you work with such a great team. Johnny Vegas has been fantastic;
he really is a good actor.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at “Baby
Cow Productions” and all the production team at BBC Manchester.
If I mentioned everyone by name, it would fill the page, so I’ll
just thank everyone, they are a great bunch. I hope you enjoy it as much
as I have making it. Let’s hope there’s more of this acting
for me.
The trip on The Queen Victoria was fun. There’s always teething
problems with a new ship, but the crew were working through the night
to get things right. That included the entertainment team who were rehearsing
new shows during the night. They all work very hard. It was a bit rough
on the crossing, but I was fine. Wendy, however, was confined to the cabin
for several days with sea sickness. I’ve just got used to it.
I’m off on the QE2 again on 2nd March, I join it in Panama. I will
miss her when she becomes a floating hotel in Dubai.
Can I also give a plug to my show at The Stockport Plaza on 23rd Feb.
Tickets are on sale at the box office and are priced at just £12.50.
I’ll be supported on the night by my great pal, Alfie Joey. He’s
a great comedian and also plays a part in “Ideal.” Hope to
see you there. www.stockportplaza.co.uk

Hi
everyone,
Happy New Year to you all. Hope you had a good one. I had an enjoyable
evening with my family, there was only a few of us, so it was quiet, but
really nice.
I’m joining the new Queen Victoria cruise ship on Sunday. It will
be its first transatlantic cruise, so I feel honoured to have been booked
to provide the laughs. The great thing is, Wendy is coming with me. We
are going to have a few days in New York before flying back. We might
as well make the most of the weak dollar and the January sales!
As I mentioned in my last post, I’m an actor now! When I return
from New York, I will be back at the BBC to complete filming for the series
“Ideal,” with Johnny Vegas. I’m enjoying doing this
as it’s a new challenge. I did a TV play many years ago, but had
never seen it until recently. I have to thank BBC North West Tonight producer,
Phil Smith, for getting me a copy from the archives.
Just before Christmas, I was in the Caribbean, on board “The Arcadia.”
Unfortunately, I couldn’t go out in the sun. The BBC make up girls
had told me not to change skin colour. After all, “Ideal”
is set in a squalid bedsit in Manchester, and I couldn’t be seen
to go out of the flat and come back in with a healthy tan. So I’m
sure some of the passengers thought I was a bit odd, going out in a hat
and coat, but you have to suffer for your art!
Anyway, I have to go and pack my suitcase, so I’ll sign off. As
always, if you are a “MySpace friend” or just a reader of
this on my website, feel free to come up and say hello on the ships or
any of the gigs.
All
the best,
Mick

Hi
everyone,
Sorry I haven't posted anything for ages, but I have been so busy. Along
with the usual cruise ships, I have been all over the pace doing gigs.
I promise that I will write something over the next few days before I
join the new "Queen Victoria" for its first trans-Atlantic voyage
to New York.
I can also tell you that I am currently recording a new series of "Ideal"
with Johnny Vegas for the BBC. I have done a bit of acting in the dim
and distant past, so it's a sharp learning curve! Johnny is fantastic,
he's such a nice guy and has been a great help. I would also like to thank
Ben (the director) and Cath for their help and support. I will let you
know more when we have a transmission date, but I won't tell you about
my role at the moment as I don't want to spoil the storyline. Although
I can tell you that it is a major new character and I will bee in 5 out
of the 8 new episodes.
Hope
you all have a great Christmas and a happy and successful New Year.

Another month
has flown by and I seem to have flown for most of it. I keep hearing stories
about “The Business” being on its arse. Some acts are telling
me that they have no work at all. Well, I do know that times are difficult
and the Great British holiday season seems to have all but gone. Even
Blackpool’s Summer Shows are not what they used to be. But I am
very lucky. I took the decision to get into the Cruise Ship market, and
have never looked back. I work for many different lines, mostly American,
and they all keep asking for me back. During these summer months, the
ships are all in the Med. or the Baltic. So, they are full of Americans
doing what we do in the Caribbean in the winter months. I really enjoy
working to the Americans as their humour is a bit different to the Brits.
and I get to try out new stuff.
The other week, I was on a ship in the Baltic, we went to Poland, where
there seems to be a shortage of tradesmen. Maybe they are all working
over here! We sailed up to Russia and I returned home from Helsinki. But,
when I arrived to join the ship, guess what, NO LUGGAGE again. I must
admit to being fuming mad. I got on board and went through the usual conversation
with the Cruise Director, who found me some clothes. I then found out
that the other comic on board was Duggie Brown. He is a great comic and
a thoroughly nice bloke. Unfortunately, he’s not the same size as
me, so no clothes there. We ended up having a great week talking about
the old days. I even got my luggage delivered to the next port, so it
turned out well in the end.
I have agreed to do a series of theatre shows with the maddest woman in
the world. Jeannie Gray is a very nice woman who runs Chord Theatricals.
Amongst many different things, they put shows into theatres and concert
halls all over the UK and manage acts. She saw me at a gig somewhere,
loved what I did and got in touch. She wanted to promote a show featuring
me. We loved her attitude and personality, take it from me, she is mad!
So, we did the first of these shows in Llandudno the other week. More
are to follow and as they get near, I’ll publish details of the
venues and dates.

I’ve
just had a great week. I like doing new and different things. Last Monday,
I took part in the recording of a new BBC Radio panel show. The best way
to describe it is like “Never Mind The Buzzcocks” for comedy.
Being a pilot, we had to record 10 rounds, but they only intend to use
4. Some of the rounds were very odd, but I’m sure it will make a
great show by the time they have finished. The other panellists were Seymour
Mace, Smug Roberts and Bernie Nolan. I’ve known Bernie for years
and it was great to see her again. Seymour and Smug are two guys from
the Comedy Club circuit. I find it funny when people knock new comedy,
saying that it just isn’t funny. These guys are very funny and very
clever comedians. If you get chance to see either of them, do yourself
a favour and go. The presenter was Barnsley funny man, Ian McMillan, who
held the whole thing together brilliantly. Watch out for the series, “Nobody
Expects The Spanish Inquisition” early next year. (A photo of the
night is on www.myspace.com/mickmillercomedy)
On Thursday, I turned up for a gig in Liverpool. It was an after dinner
speaking event, but I didn’t know who the other speaker was until
I got there. It turned out to be David Cameron, the Tory leader! So, he
spoke 1st, that means he was my support act!
The other bits of news this week are that I have been asked to contribute
to a Radio 2 documentary about Les Dawson. This is to be aired in October.
I have also been asked to take part in Janey Godley’s Edinburgh
show. She will be interviewing me on Saturday 18th August. Booking details
are printed below. It will be my 1st appearance at the Edinburgh Festival.

I
have just had a phone call. The great Bernard Manning has sadly passed
away earlier this afternoon. Bernard was a great comedian; he was a gifted
gag teller. In today’s Britain, he was considered so politically
incorrect; he had almost become an outcast. But if you put his name on
a poster, the show would still sell out. The public loved him. A generation
of comedians loved him. He was a truly nice person. Unfortunately, many
people couldn’t see past the public persona. During the last year,
I have been working with Bernard and his manager, Chris Graham. They have
been putting together a TV program for Channel 4 to air after his death.
Bernard wanted to have the last say on his life and career. He certainly
did that.
It was only a few weeks ago that I, along with a host of celebrities attended
Bernard’s “living wake.” It was a great way to celebrate
his life and make money for charities. Bernard was a tireless worker for
charity and he should be remembered for this as well as all the laughter
and controversy.
Bernard, we’ll miss you.

Well,
it’s been ages since I got time to write anything here. I’ve
been so busy. Since I last wrote, I flew back to the Caribbean to join
the QE2. and then flew back. Went to Tenerife for some gigs, sailed from
Southampton to Bordeaux, then flew to Nice where I joined another ship
and sailed to Athens, where I then flew back to Britain. My Carbon Footprint
is so large, that if we get a hot summer this year, you have me to thank!
Whilst back in the UK, I attended a tribute dinner to Bernard Manning.
Don’t believe what you read in the papers, he is a wonderful man
who does so much work for charity. Unfortunately, he has been ill again,
so I wish him all the best.
Talking of legends, I went over to the Isle of Man to do the entertaining
at the Norman Wisdom Golf Day. Norman wasn’t there, but he is in
his 90’s, so we’ll forgive him.
The Tenerife shows were good. Steve was with me, and we managed to get
a bit of sun. I took the opportunity to catch up with as many of my friends
on the island as possible. Thanks to the Thompson Gold Entertainment staff
who looked after us.
I recorded something for a BBC2 show the other week. I can’t say
too much about it, but it involved me doing a short spot at The Frog &
Bucket Comedy Club in Manchester. It was a fun night. Thanks to Lee who
runs it and to John Scott who was the MC for the night. Alfie (the nicest
man in comedy) Joey was also on the bill.
The Southampton to Bordeaux cruise was eventful. We sailed through the
Bay of Biscay, and it lived up to its reputation. It was very rough. More
than half the passengers were sea sick. I’m now an old hand at this
sailing lark, so I was fine. Unfortunately, it was so rough, that they
weren’t able to perform a show with the dancers, so, guess what?
That’s right, get the bald comic on! Still, at least nobody cut
my hair on this trip!!!!
The other night I did a show for the Asian Golf Society at Bradford Golf
Course. What a great night. Thanks go to Jaz Athwal for looking after
us. All the money raised is going to help disadvantaged youngsters.
I’ll finish of by saying it’s my Golf Day on Thursday, so
I hope the weather is nice. We will raise money for good causes in the
Blackpool area. I’ll post some pictures on myspace as soon as possible.
Take
care,
Mick.

Hi everyone.
I’ve just got back from a stint on “The Ocean Village.”
I always enjoy working on this ship. This time I was on with a mate of
Steve’s (my PA.) Gary Ryan is one of the best Neil Diamond acts
around.
I have an apology to make. I was due to perform at a fundraising event
last night (Thursday 26th April.) All was fine, my flight was booked and
I was due back at Manchester Airport by mid afternoon. Unfortunately,
due to some problems at sea, we were delayed and missed the flight. Back
home, Steve was franticly trying to find an alternative flight, by any
route possible. But as we were docking in Madeira, there weren’t
any other options. I finally got back home this morning. So, I’d
like to take this opportunity to apologise to all the people who had booked
to see me at the Preston Grasshoppers Rugby club. Tony Slater had done
a fantastic job organising everything and I feel really bad about letting
him down. The event was in aid of Preston Women’s Refuge’s
Hope Centre. It’s a very worthy cause and I hope to be able to help
in the near future.
I’m home for a few days, and then back over to the Caribbean to
join the QE2. After that, I’m going to Tenerife to do some shows
for Thompson Gold. I’ll post something when I get chance.

I
can’t believe we’re into April already. I’ve been busy
working on cruise ships and the time has flown by. Last Wednesday, I did
a gig with “X Factor” winner, Shayne Ward. The guy who organized
the whole event, Graham Albinson, is a friend and he commented on the
lack of news updates on the website. I’ve been so busy, that I had
completely forgotten to write anything. So here’s the quick update.
Several trips to the Caribbean, followed by several ships. Met some nice
people and a few odd people.
Coming more up to date, I joined a cruise ship in Egypt three weeks ago.
The Black Watch was on the last leg of a long cruise. I had to fly to
Cairo to pick it up. I was a bit concerned when we had an armed guard
to take us to the ship (a 3 hour drive) but I am told this is normal for
this part of the world. I was a bit worried about who else would be on
board, because I would be on for nearly two weeks. I needn’t have
worried, because an old friend was working on board, magician, Neil Austin.
Also working was a great act, Colin “Fingers” Henry. He is
ideal for this type of work, the audiences loved him. These cruises often
have people on them who do “Talks.” This one was no different,
the well known actor, Sir Donald Sindon, was there. I must admit that
I thought he might be a bit of a snobby old fart, but I couldn’t
have been more wrong. I’m not sure how old he will be now, but he
is a wonderful man. I spent some time with him, just listening to his
stories. Some were true and some were just a way of telling jokes, but
he was such good company.
At the end of the cruise, we all performed in the “End of Cruise,
Gala Show.” After this, I went to the bar to chat to some of the
passengers, when the most bizarre thing happened. A woman passenger, who
was obviously a bit worse for drink, came up behind me. She said “You
would look better with short hair” and produced a pair of scissors
from her bag. She then hacked off a 3inch piece of my hair at the back.
And I do mean hacked! Everyone was stunned. The woman’s husband
whisked her away, leaving me shocked. If anyone knows who this woman was,
please let me know by e mail at mickmillercomedy@hotmail.com. Both the
cruise line and my legal people would very much like to have a word with
her.
As I mentioned earlier, I did a corporate gig last Wednesday. It was at
the new Coventry City, Ricoh Stadium. What a fantastic venue. The show
was for a Trade Show, dealing with promotional products. “Elite
Productions” had been contracted to put an evening event together.
They did a fantastic job. The meal was accompanied by four Opera singing
girls. After dinner, I was the compere for the Gala show, which featured
a great band, “The Right Stuff” and Shayne Ward. The women
seemed to like him! When he had finished his set, I had to go back on.
I had a sea of screaming women in front of the stage, it felt great, until
they realised he’s gone. Then they all sat down to laugh at the
bald guy with the long hair (with a bit missing.) But it was a great evening.
I’ll try not to leave it so long next time. Please join myspace
where I now will post any new pictures. You will be able to see a sex
symbol with Shayne Ward!

care,

I
hope you all had a good Christmas and new year. I had all the family around
for Christmas dinner. It was great to have them all under the same roof
at the same time. Plus I got to play with all the kid’s presents.
I really enjoyed New Year. I worked at The Grand Theatre in Blackpool.
I was the “special guest” on their New Years Eve Gala Show,
with Andy Prior and his Big Band. It made a nice change to work at a sensible
time and then go to a party to see in the New Year.
I have to congratulate my good friend, Pat Mancini. She owns The Queens
Hotel in Blackpool and was awarded the M.B.E. in the New Year’s
honours list. She is a great charity fund raiser, and it was good to see
all her efforts rewarded.
I’m flying off to America next week. I’m working on the Queen
Mary 2 and will be joining it in Fort Lauderdale. My partner, Wendy, is
coming with me, so we’re making it a bit of a holiday too.
I’ll post again when I return. Have a good new year.

Well,
I’ve made it to Christmas. It’s been a hard month for all
us comedians. It’s alright for those of you who have a work’s
Christmas party. You go along, get drunk and enjoy the comedian. We have
to stay sober and make drunken people laugh! Some of these gigs are harder
than others, I won’t name you, but you know who you are!
I had been booked to do “Jordan’s” Christmas party.
I must admit to getting a bit “excited” about this one. Then
I found out that Jordan’s are a company that make breakfast cereals
and not a surgically enhanced glamour model.
I have to say that most of the party gigs have been good. The Jordan’s
was a great one to finish on. We were well looked after and the bosses
were really nice people.
All that remains to say is HAPPY CHRISTMAS to you all. I’m at The
Grand Theatre in Blackpool for a New Year’s Eve show, so I might
see some of you there.
All
the best,
Mick

I’m
back home safely, after an eventful trip abroad. I can smile about it
now, but I wasn’t amused at the time. Every time I go away to some
exotic location to join a cruise ship, I get the same “You lucky
……” comments from everyone. As I have said before, I
don’t like flying! Also, with the amount of travelling that I do,
something is bound to go wrong sometime. This was that time.
I should have known, the day before I travelled. I was entertaining at
a corporate function near Birmingham. A message was sent to the function
room that a car had been broken into on the car park. Steve went to check
that ours was ok, which it was, but he found another had been a smashed
into. By the end of the evening, a few more cars had been done. Luckily,
ours was left alone.
I had to be at Manchester airport the next morning at 5.30am, Steve dropped
me off and I caught my internal flight to Heathrow, where I caught a flight
to Miami. This is where it started to go wrong. The flight was late, so
I missed my connection to the island of Aruba where I was due to join
the ship. After a phone call home, a hotel was arranged and a flight sorted
out for the next morning. All seemed ok.
After a decent nights sleep, I arrived back at the airport for the flight
to Aruba. I still had enough time to catch the ship. All went well, until……….
Yes, you’ve guessed. My suitcase didn’t come off the carousel.
It contained all my clothes for the trip, including my “stage suit.”
All I had was what I was wearing. Another phone call back to the UK. There
was no way they could find my case and get it to me before the ship sailed.
There was no option; I had to join the ship with just the clothes I was
stood up in. This was fast turning into a farce.
On boarding the “Sea Princess” I met the Cruise Director,
Peter and his assistant, Jason. They were fantastic and offered to help
me out with clothes, toiletries etc. Also on board was an old friend.
You might remember Bernie Flint, the “Opportunity Knocks”
winner. It was nice to see a friendly, familiar face. He’s a great
act, and such a nice bloke. I kept looking at him. I think he was worried
that I’d turned the other way, but I couldn’t take my eyes
off his nice suit. Unfortunately, he is still a lot slimmer than me. So
there was no chance that I could borrow it to do my act in.
Eventually, I got a message that Peter had sorted two suitable suits out
for me to work in. What a relief, the only worry for me was, would they
be sparkly showbiz suits, and would I look ridiculous? He assured me that
they were ok. I had two shows to do and he had sorted out two suits. It
was the first time that I had worked, dressed as Head Waiter, but it was
ok. For the second show, I was dressed as the Chief Purser. I was past
caring by then. As I said, I can smile about it now.
Last night, my suitcase was delivered back to my house. It was still locked,
but when I opened it up, to add insult to injury, it had been robbed.
Everything of any value had gone, including a very nice pair of shoes,
clothes and other electrical items (which the airlines now insist go in
your case, in the hold.) I can’t smile at this; I am VERY pi---d
off.
Anyway, tomorrow is another day and I must move on. I was told that “The
Stage” newspaper had an article in it this week, about comedians
who should be on the telly. I am pleased to say that a couple of my mates
are on the list. “Chubby Brown,” Jethro and Johnnie Casson
are there. But they have also included me. So, thank you to “The
Stage.” You never know, some TV executive might read it and think
“I must get that bald guy for my new show.”
Before I go, I have to mention one of the great comedians, Dave Evans;
we were working together on the QE2 the other week. I really enjoyed watching
him work. Also on the ship was a great singer from Blackpool, Dave McClain.
I’ve known him for ages, so it was nice to catch up on things.
I’m quite busy on the run up to Christmas, but I will post here
again before we get there.

It’s
been quiet over the last few weeks. I’ve had time to recharge my
batteries and do some work at home. This has meant that I have not written
anything on here for a while; there’s been nothing to tell you.
I am recording a program for BBC 7 (digital radio) next Wednesday. It’s
a panel show called “Serious About Comedy.” I’ll be
reviewing a TV show and a radio show. We will also be talking about The
Manchester Comedy Festival. Speaking of which, I will be appearing at
The “Comedy Store,” Manchester on Friday 20th October. I think
I’m on with the night watchman! My mate, Andrew Maxwell (Kings of
Comedy) is bringing his successful “Maxwell’s Full Mooner’s”
show up from London and he has asked me if I will be one of his guests.
Tickets are now on sale from The Comedy Store in Manchester.
My other bit of news is about my charity golf day. We didn’t do
one this year, as I was out of the country for most of the summer. I’ve
had so many people asking what was happening next year, so I have decided
to block off a date in my diary and book the golf course. It will be on
14th June 07 in Blackpool. If anyone would like to enter a team, we will
publish details on this website. We try to make it a fun day, so if you
are a business and want to entertain your clients, or just a golfer with
some mates, you’re all welcome. If you need more details, just e
mail us at mickmillercomedy@hotmail.com

I
returned home from a cruise ship in the middle of last night. This morning,
I got a phone call from Roy Walker. He informed me of the very sad news
that legendary comedian, Charlie Williams, had died. We had worked together
many times, and of course, been on “The Comedians” together.
Charlie had been ill for some time, suffering from Parkinson’s disease
and Dementia. He died yesterday afternoon, aged 78. I have some lovely
memories of him. He will be remembered as Britain’s first black
comedy star. He entertained the nation, using his native Yorkshire accent
and famous catchphrase, “Me old flower.” He also presented
“The Golden Shot” (TV game show).
He was a genuinely nice person, and we spent many a long hour chatting
in our dressing rooms at Granada TV studios. He had been a professional
football player in his younger days, so we had that in common. We got
on like a house on fire.
I’d like to pass on my sympathy to his family and friends, and just
say,” Charlie, thank you for the laughter.”

I’m back from Dubai. Steve, who works with me, came along too. I
was working in “The Laughter Factory” comedy clubs. We had
a great time out there, but getting there was a bit fraught. Our flights
were from Manchester to Abu Dhabi and were just a few days after the terrorism
scare. We were flying with the relatively new airline, Etihad, the national
airline of Abu Dhabi. Their staff at Manchester were fantastic and we
checked in very quickly. It was then that we saw the queue to get through
security! It took us just over an hour to get through, but I have to say,
the airport had got things under control and everyone understood the difficulty.
Queuing for an hour is a small price to pay for safety.
Once on board, we were treated really well. I have flown all over the
world and have to say that this was one of the best flights I have had.
The on board service was fantastic. So, if you have to travel to Abu Dhabi,
I would recommend Etihad.
We arrived at Abu Dhabi International Airport on the Monday evening, it
was dark, but we didn’t realise how hot it was as we got off the
plane via an air conditioned tunnel. We were met by Duncan Jones (the
promoter) and as soon as we went outside, we nearly melted.
Duncan drove us to our hotel, and when he eventually found it (he’s
not too good at driving in the dark!), we got out of the air conditioned
car and both Steve and I couldn’t see a thing, our glasses instantly
steamed up! The heat was overpowering.
It was at this time that we found out that magician, Paul Zenon, had not
been able to get through Heathrow Airport. He wasn’t allowed to
travel with his tricks, due to security. However the other act, Canadian
comedian, Craig Campbell was on his way.
The next day, Steve and I went for a look around the local shops. We managed
about a hundred yards, and then we had to get inside out of the heat.
So, our first shopping experience in Abu Dhabi was in British Home Stores!
Their air conditioning was wonderful.
That night, we met Craig just before the gig. He seemed like a quiet sort
of guy. Then he went on stage. He is a very different person when he performs.
I really enjoyed what he did. He even managed to find a fellow Canadian
in the audience, who worked as a meteorologist at the airport. Craig couldn’t
understand why they had to get a guy all the way from Canada to tell them
that it was going to be HOT again. I did my set and had fun; the audience
were mainly British, but also from Canada, Australia, but not America.
During the evening, people kept coming up to me for a chat. I couldn’t
believe how many people had connections to me. We met a guy who has booked
me to appear at a dinner in Preston next month. And also met an agent’s
son.
The next day, we had to travel to Dubai. Steve and I were taken in a Jaguar,
Craig travelled in a 4WD with the luggage. He was a nervous wreck when
we got to our hotel. He couldn’t believe that they’d driven
at 150Km per hour, through the desert with the “CHECK ENGINE”
light flashing. It had been 44 degrees C that day! If they had broken
down, how long would they have lasted? At least he had nicked the fruit
from his hotel room, which might have saved him.
The temperature was getting higher, so Steve and I decided to try the
swimming pool area. You didn’t need to get into the pool to get
wet. The humidity was enough! The show that night was in the Crowne Plazza
Hotel and went very well.
The next day, we went out to buy a few things to bring back home. How
hot is 49 Deg.C? The final show was at a place called Jimmy Dix and was
probably the best of the three. The audience were so close to the stage
and it just felt really good.
After the show, we were driven straight to the airport in Abu Dhabi, where
we caught the overnight flight back to Manchester. We both wish we could
have stayed a bit longer. We had a ball and can’t wait to go back.
So, let’s hope we can fit some dates in next year.
I’m going to join a Royal Caribbean Cruise ship now. Enjoy what’s
left of the summer, I’ll post again soon.

Hello
again. What a nice summer we’re having. It’s a good job that
I have air-con in the car! As usual, since the last time I posted here,
I’ve been all over the place. But I have done something a bit different.
I’m very proud to have been asked to be involved in a TV program
about Bernard Manning. The odd thing about it is that it won’t be
shown until after his death. I was worried about doing something like
this, but Bernard put my mind at ease. He is very much involved in the
project and wants to have the final say. He looks at it as a way of having
some control over how he is remembered. We filmed an interview where I,
along with Blackpool’s famous Pat Mancini, chatted to Bernard about
the old days and his views on life. It was a great day.
Then, I, along with a “Professor of Comedy” and the head of
“The Comedy School” in London and comedy legend, Arnold Brown,
watched a Bernard Manning gig. These three were Bernard virgins and they
would then comment on Bernard’s performance. You’ll have to
wait to see what they thought.
Coming right up to date, I have just returned from the QE2. This cruise
took us up to Norway and I was surprised to see an old mate onboard. International
juggler, Pete Mathews was entertaining. It must have been 10 years since
last saw him, so we had a lot of catching up to do. Also speaking onboard
was the renowned, Terry Waite. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the chance
to speak to him, but I bet his “Talk” was very interesting.
Just before I joined the QE2, I got a phone call from Bradley Walsh (Danny
Baldwin.) As you may know, Brad and I are good mates. He is doing some
live shows in Blackpool throughout the season and was looking for a fresh
young comedian to be his support act. He wanted to know if I could recommend
anyone. It didn’t take me long to come up with Alfie Joey. He had
been one of the support acts when I worked XS Malarkey, the comedy club
in Manchester. Alfie is such a nice guy and a good comedian. A couple
of phone calls later and Alfie is doing the gigs. I think he only misses
two shows between now and the end of October. So, if you’re in Blackpool
on a Thursday night, do yourself a favour, go and see Bradley Walsh at
“The Opera House.” Brad is very funny and he has a great support
act in Alfie Joey.
I go of to Barcelona on Wednesday, where I join a Royal Caribbean Cruise
liner. I’m only on until Sunday, when I fly back to the UK. I’ll
get the chance to put my feet up for an hour or so, and then it’s
off to Dubai on Monday. I don’t do badly for someone who doesn’t
like flying.
I’ll post again in another few weeks.
Take
care,
Mick

When you
work as much as I do, strange things sometimes happen. I’ve just
retuned from doing three gigs in Cyprus. They were great fun as well as
being a bit warm!
I was doing the last gig in the run, when strange things started to happen.
The show was outside and it was still very warm. Staff started moving
stacks of chairs on squeaky trolleys, a small chef in a big hat walked
in front of the stage and a man nearly choked, whilst laughing and had
to leave to get his breath! Then, a stray cat wandered across the front
of the stage, stopped, looked me up and down and walked away. Just as
I thought it couldn’t get any weirder, two bats started flying around
just in front of the stage. I was waiting for a donkey to walk behind
me. I honestly thought that I was being wound up for a TV show. The audience
were fantastic though. All this just seemed to make it one of “those
nights” that will be remembered for a long time.
It was also nice to meet the Comedy/Vocal duo, “Harper” on
the flight out and back. They are the son’s of Bobby Ball, and he
should be very proud of them. They are such nice guys. They were in Cyprus
to do the same run of gigs as me. They had had a fun time too.
Thanks to Pee Wee and his team for making us so very welcome.

I’m
back! I have a whole week off. I’m going to sit in the garden and
enjoy the weather. I might even have some friends around for a barbeque.
I’ve had great fun in the last few weeks, Ibiza, Greece, Turkey,
France etc. but it’s really nice to be at home with Wendy and my
dog, Charlie. We had a very sad time the other week when we “lost”
our other dog, Max. He had lived to a good age and had not been very well
for a while, but it doesn’t make it any easier.
I forgot to mention in my last post, that I had been to a wedding. Many
of you will remember Duncan Norvelle, the camp comedian who’s catchphrase
was “Chase me!” We have been friends for many years, and I
don’t think that I have ever seen him so happy. He met Jane two
years ago, and it was obvious that they were meant to be together. Their
wedding was at a small village church, just outside Barnsley. It was a
fantastic day, and I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate
them and wish them all the luck.
I’m going to enjoy the sunshine now, and as I’m in the north,
I might get the hose out and was the car and water the garden.

I’m
back in the UK tonight, and only tonight. I have just returned from doing
some shows in Ibiza and fly out to Athens tomorrow. I’m going to
join the QE2 for a few days. Then it’s back to the UK for one more
night, before I go on another cruise ship from Southampton. It’s
nice being asked to work in so many different areas, and I don’t
just mean areas of the world. I am lucky to be able to work to young people
in comedy clubs, through to senior citizens on some of the world’s
greatest cruise ships.
I’m so busy at the moment; I am finding it hard to get the time
to post anything here. But I do try, because so many people come up to
me and say that they read this and enjoy knowing what I’m up to.
So, here goes, in the next few months, I’ll be on the QE2 several
times. I’ll also be on several of the Royal Caribbean Cruise liners,
and entertaining “Thompson’s Gold” guests in Cyprus.
I’m also looking forward to doing a short tour of comedy clubs in
Dubai and the Gulf in August. I’m even doing some shows in the entertainment
capitol of the world, Blackpool. It’s funny, wherever you go in
the world, it’s always nice to get back home, and it’s great
to be able to entertain people in your home town. Blackpool is going through
some changes at the moment. Entertainment seems to be struggling to survive,
but I think that Blackpool has big plans for the future which includes
the new breed of casinos. Let’s hope they succeed. I’ll write
again as soon as possible, hope you enjoy the nice weather.

comedians. The show is to be shown later this year, and the top 50 are
made up from a public vote. Mick has been asked to take part in the program,
talking about his comedy favourites. I am also pleased to tell you that
he has been nominated as one of the top 50. The final position will be
decided by a public vote.

I’ve
been busy since I last posted here. But I did promise to tell you about
my TV appearance on the new ITV1 Show, The Mint. It’s always difficult
to make a decision about taking part in something that is so new, it hasn’t
been on TV. You don’t know what to expect. The thing about this
is that I knew the Executive Producer from many years ago. So I decided,
for old time’s sake, to do the show. When I found out the format,
just a few days before appearing, I must admit to being apprehensive.
We drove down to the studios in Maidstone and checked into the hotel.
The show was due on air at five past midnight and we had been asked to
be at the studios for 10.30. TV studios are normally a hive of activity,
with lots of people running around. But at this time of night, they’re
a bit like a ghost town. The security guy lets you in and finds a production
assistant to look after you. We were shown to a dressing room and told
where we could get a coffee. It was there that we met the presenters for
that night. Cat Porter and Craig Stevens were really nice people. Craig
turned out to be a comedy fan and knew quite a lot about me, as well as
other comedians. We had a chat and they left to go on set for a quick
camera rehearsal.
After a short briefing from the producer and director, the program went
live. I was introduced about 12.30 and was due to do about an hour and
a half of answering the phones, giving away cash prizes and having a laugh.
Two hours later, I was still there! Time had flown by, and I had really
enjoyed myself. I didn’t think it would be as much fun as it turned
out to be. So thank you to Craig and Cat, for making it easy. It’s
a fun show to do, and I will be doing it again. I have to say that they
have created a real family type aptmosphere in the studio. The often forgotten
crew, (runners and cameramen) were all equally responsible for making
us so welcome and helping to make the show a success.
Whilst we were there, we met a young guy from Scotland, who was there
to pick up his cheque for £15,000. He made an appearance on the
show, and was over the moon. After all, he’d only made a phone call
and got lucky. It shows how easy it can be.
The other bit of news was the show I did for the forces. It was at RAF
Leaconfield, which also acts as a training school for all the forces drivers.
I was the MC for the evening. The top of the bill act, was my mate Paddy
McGuinness from Phoenix Nights and Max & Paddy. He’s enjoying
a great deal of success at the moment with his “Dark Side”
tour. He say’s, "Peter Kay talks about the wedding, I talk
about the wedding night!" He certainly does, and is very funny with
it. Paddy is such a nice person, he deserves his success. We had a long
chat in the dressing room and he has told me a few of his future projects,
and I can’t wait to see them.
After the show, we were treated to a buffet and drinks. We met some of
the officers and key personnel. I had a great time, chatting to everyone
from the fire crew to the guys who fly the Air Sea Rescue helicopters.
These guys are amazing; they don’t seem to have any fear. After
chatting for a while, they invited Paddy and me to go and have a look
at the Sea King helicopters that they use. They were in a hanger just
a hundred yards from where we were. We were like big kids. We climbed
into one and they let us into the pilot’s seats. They are a fantastic
piece of kit, even if they are a bit like a Meccano set! So thank you
for making two grown up comedians very happy.
Finally, for now, I’d like to thank Pat Mancini of The Queens Hotel,
Blackpool, for inviting Wendy and I to her birthday bash. Steve (my PA)
and Sarah were also there. We had a fantastic night, great food, great
entertainment and great hospitality. Thanks Pat.
After writing all this, I need a rest now!
Lots of love,
Mick

Hi,
I’m sorry if any of you tuned into BBC Lancashire on Friday morning
expecting to hear me. It was all sorted out and I was looking forward
to it. Then, disaster struck. We had a leak at home. Water came through
the ceiling via the light fitting. So it was plumbers at dawn! Anyway,
it’s all sorted out now.
I’m on the telly this week. Tuesday night, Wednesday morning sees
me as “The Celebrity Guest” on the new ITV1 show, “The
Mint.” I haven’t a clue what I’m doing, but I’ll
give it a go. I think that you can phone in and win money, so it might
be worth putting up with me for an hour!
I’ll post again, after I’ve done the TV show and the show
with Paddy McGuiness for the troops.
See you soon,
Mick

Hello
again. I had another great trip on the Ocean Village, but had to put up
with flight delays on the way back. Anyway, I managed to get back just
in time to head off to Chester to perform at a Suzuki car launch. I hadn’t
slept on the plane, so I was totally knackered. I slept very well that
night!
I’m just finalising a few gigs in Dubai and Abu Dhabi in August.
It might be a bit warm, but should be good fun. I’ll post the gig
details as soon as I have them confirmed.
Later this week, I’m going to do a short set at a comedy club in
Blackburn with my mate, Justin Moorehouse (Phoenix Nights & Key 103
Radio.) For those of you in the North West, Justin and I will be appearing
on BBC Radio Lancashire, with Ted Robbins, on Friday morning. Next week,
I’m doing a gig with Paddy McGuiness (Phoenix Nights & Max and
Paddy). It’s a private show for the forces in the UK. I’m
really looking forward to this one.
I’m sorry that this is a short post, but I’m quite busy and
quite knackered.
See
you at a show soon,
Mick

Hello
everyone, hope you like the website’s new look. I thought it was
time for a change, so thanks to Steve Cowper who works with me, and the
wonderfully talented Steve Harvey who is our web designer. I think it
looks great, hope you all agree. Why not leave some messages on the guestbook
and let us know what you think of it.
I’m going back to the Caribbean next week. I know what you are thinking,
but it’s a long flight and I’m not keen on flying. Then, there’s
the weather. All that sun isn’t good for you. The food on the ship
is very good, but there’s too much choice. I can go for a drink
when I’m not working, but alcohol is bad for you. So, all in all,
I really hate these cruise ships………………..NOT!
I really have a ball, so if you are ever on one where I’m working,
please come up and say hello, I don’t bite.
The magician’s conference was fun. As usual, I bought a load of
tricks. I keep trying them out on people and I am getting better. I get
to see a lot of my old mates at the conference. Everyone from ex Haven
mates to household names like Joe Pasquale. The Gala show is great fun.
It features magicians from all over the world. Many of them don’t
speak English, so they haven’t a clue what I’m saying about
them. I do have fun!
News has come out this week that there might not be any shows on the North
Pier in Blackpool this year. I think that is a great shame. But in response
to that, some hotels and cabaret venues are taking the bull by the horns,
and are putting quality entertainment on themselves. I have been booked
to perform at a seafront hotel in Blackpool for four Saturdays in the
summer. I don’t have a website or e mail address for this, but I
will give you a postal address. It’s The New Marlborough Hotel,
281-283 Central Promenade, Blackpool, Lancs. FY1 6AL. Please tell them
that you got the details from this website.
Can I also take this opportunity to wish good luck to a new venture. Last
weekend, I worked at a new club in Blackpool. “Azy Showbar”
is situated above The Brunswick Club, just off Central Drive. The venue
is the first venture into show business by Capt. Azy Jawook. Having met
him and his wife at the weekend, if anybody deserves success, he does.
He is a lovely man, who has put a lot of money into this. If you are in
Blackpool, I urge you to check it out. He is trying to get big names,
and has created a very nice venue. We are looking at putting some more
dates in for him.
Look
after yourselves,
Mick

I’ve been globetrotting
again. I’m not a great flyer, but have had to get used to it over
the years. Earlier this month I flew off to the Caribbean, where I joined
the “Ocean Village” cruise ship. I love doing those cruises;
they are full of “real” people who are there to enjoy themselves.
All the entertainers really enjoy working on board. It’s a small
world though. Some of you may know of Steve, who works with me. Well,
whilst I was on the “Ocean Village,” I was approached by a
lovely couple, who turned out to be good friends of Steve’s. Neither
of us knew that Trevor and his wife Adie were going on this particular
cruise. So I’d just like to say hello to them.
On my return, I had a couple of days off before travelling to Monmouth
to entertain members of the Rugby Club. It’s a good job they liked
me, because there were quite a few BIG guys there. We stopped over, and
left at 5.30 in the morning. I had to be at, what seems like my second
home, Manchester Airport for a morning flight to Cyprus. I had been booked
to appear at a new venture. Through the years, I have worked at “Potters
Resort,” near Great Yarmouth, home of the World Bowls Tournaments.
They have now branched out and have started “Potters Abroad.”
The guests seemed to enjoy themselves. I’d like to take a second
to wish John Potter and his team all the best with this project.
By the time I got back home, my body clock really didn’t know where
it was!
This weekend sees the magic world’s big get together in Blackpool.
Magicians come from all over the world to swap ideas, buy and sell illusions
and generally have fun. Once again, I’m proud to have been asked
to be the host and compere of the Gala show. I’ve done a few of
these before, they are great fun.
I’m also doing a pre match performance at The Reebok Stadium. I’ll
remain neutral on this, but I do wish my mate, “Big” Sam Allerdyce
all the best. He should be the next England Manager.

Sorry I haven’t
posted for a while, but I have been busy. For the first time in several
years, I managed to get away for a holiday. It was great. Wendy and I
enjoyed a relaxing break. I’ve got back into the swing of things
now, and am enjoying the gigs.
If you have read my previous postings, you will be aware that a DVD has
been released in the shops and through internet suppliers. I’d just
like to take this chance to remind you all that I do not endorse this
product. The deal was done without my knowledge, and I have not been paid
anything for this DVD. As you can imagine, I am a little upset about this,
but there doesn’t appear to be anything that I can do about it.
We’ve been lucky with the weather so far. Not much snow to worry
about. At least I have a big 4x4 to get through to gigs if it’s
bad. But I won’t have that problem this week. On Tuesday, I’m
flying off to The Bahamas. I’m working on a cruise ship. Sorry to
rub it in, but it should be better weather out there. Then it’s
back for more UK gigs. I am working on quite a few cruise ships this year,
so if you are onboard for any of them, please come up and say hello. I
don’t bite! (Bye the way, mines a Lager.)
I’m getting some interesting work offers at the moment, so let’s
hope some of them work out. I’m very keen to reach the younger audiences,
as well as what I do now. I’m hoping to try out a show featuring
some of the best young comedians, but these things take time.
I’ll sign off for now and I’ll, belatedly, wish you all a
happy new year.
